Description
Contemporary Porcelain Moon Jar by Shin Won-dong. .
Shin Won-dong is heavily inspired by the Joseon Dynasty moon jar’s unique sense of ‘simplicity’ that radiates from its elegant beauty. Shin follows traditional methods of manufacture and prefers curves to straight lines for his works.
"The moon jar is a Korean traditional ceramic product. I tried to embody something more essential than just its style and form. Korean craftsmen in the past never considered the temporary outcomes they needed to discard in the process of reaching perfection as failures. They had the mindset of seeing beauty from something imperfect. I defined this accepting mindset as Korea’s minimalist aesthetic called “Acceptance” and reconstructed old Korean sentiments in a modern way".
