Description
From the stone rises a silent prayer. Light slips in, revealing the soul of the mineral. BAAL, by François-Xavier Poulaillon, raises its alabaster silhouette in tiers, between temple and tower, between earth and sky. A monument to silence, where the sacred can be guessed in the rigor of the forms.
Materials: Carved Alabaster
Inspiration: Erected in a silent verticality, BAAL imposes itself as a presence that is both architectural and spiritual. Sculpted in alabaster, a stone of light and transparency, the work deploys an ascending geometry: a massive volume rises in successive gradations, evoking both ancient temples and the stylized silhouettes of modern skyscrapers.
The material, through which light flows, gives the piece an almost liturgical aura. Depending on the lighting, the surface oscillates between opacity and translucency, revealing the density and fragility of the material.
By its title, BAAL summons the figure of the ancient god, a symbol of power and transcendence. Poulaillon explores here the tension between the sacred and minimalism, between monument and erasure. The work, through its formal rigor, becomes a sign, a silent totem where the memory of primitive forms and the modernity of pure lines meet.
Edition: Unique piece
François-Xavier Poulaillon is a French stone sculptor based in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
“My work is inspired by sacred architecture and the archaic deities of ancient peoples. My sculptures express a search for grace, for liberation. They are promises of salvation. They place the individual in their relationship to the sacred, to the forces of earth and sky.” -
