Description
Honma Hideaki used parallel-line construction, twining, and bundling techniques to plait this sculpture with madake and hōbichiku bamboo.
Incised signature reads Hide.
Honma studied bamboo plaiting techniques under Honma Kazuaki, his uncle and adopted father. He uses a wide range of techniques to create dramatic, sometimes large-scale sculptural works. His work is in the permanent collections of several US museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco. -
