Horse Weathervane in Gold Gilt by J.W Fiske & Company

$ 8,500
  • Description
    A trotting horse weathervane made by J. W. Fiske & Company (1862-1903) of New York City. The weathervane displays a nice natural patina with its original mount displayed on a custom stand in a slightly upslope manner.

    Weathervane inspired by American revolutionary "Ethan Allen". Allen is best known for leading the Green Mountain Boys, a militia group from what is now Vermont, in capturing Fort Ticonderoga from the British during the American Revolutionary War. After the war, he remained active as a rancher and politician, leaving a lasting legacy as a key figure in American history.

    John Wanamaker Fiske, known as J.W. Fiske, was a renowned American sculptor and ironwork manufacturer born in 1836 in New York City. He founded J.W. Fiske & Company in 1855, quickly gaining fame for his exceptional craftsmanship and innovative designs in architectural and ornamental ironwork.

    Throughout his career, Fiske collaborated with prominent architects and designers to create a wide range of decorative elements, including gates, fences, railings, and fountains. His work adorned many notable buildings and public spaces across the United States, including Central Park in New York City and the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
