Description
Karl Springer Scavo Murano Glass Vessel by Seguso, 1980s
This large-scale hand-blown glass vase was created in Murano, Italy, by Seguso for American designer Karl Springer in the 1980s. Executed in the signature “scavo” technique—an acid-wash process that imparts a sandblasted, archaeological patina—the piece takes the form of a lebes-style urn with applied ribbon-like handles. Horizontal coils encircle the body, while a discreet amber-glass strip on the reverse side recalls another hue Springer favored in his Venetian glass designs. The underside is etched “KARL SPRINGER.”
Dimensions
Depth: 16 in
Height: 12 in
Condition
Very good vintage condition. The scavo finish is uniform and intact, with no chips or cracks. Surface wear is consistent with age and the hand-blown nature of the glass.
Provenance
Hand-crafted by Seguso Vetri d’Arte, Murano, Italy, for Karl Springer’s American showroom, c.1980s. Accompanied by designer’s signature etched on the base. -
