Large Korean blue and white vase with Phoenix Design
-
Description
A large and heavy Korean ceramic vase in a classic Chinese form with open mouth with a wide flared rim, a neck with three concentric grooves and a sloped broad shoulder. The blue and white design features two underglazed phoenixes in tandem continuum and scattered auspicious clouds. The white glaze has allover crackled pattern with some areas show a slight unevenness. The blue underglaze shows color pooling in certain area and also a few kiln explosion bubbling show in the detail photos. The base is partially glazed with much clay exposed. The base rim is rough indicating a certain age. The precise age of the vase is not clear but we estimate it to be late 19th century (toward the end of Joseon Dynasty), possibly early 20th century.
