French Sculpted Bronze Box with Poem by Line Vautrin
-
Description
A beautiful poudrier box (powder compact) in gilt bronze by Parisian art jeweler Line Vautrin (1913-1997) circa 1945-55. A small and special series, which the designer dedicated to famous French poems. It starts by "Il Pleure dans mon coeur commeil pleut sur la ville (Tears fall in my heart as rain sweeps the city), a poem by Paul-Marie Verlaine (1844-1896). The poem was cast in high relief and covered the entire top surface, providing the only decoration of the piece with nothing but words. The mirror inside is original and of great condition. The piece is in fantastic condition and signed on the base "Line Vautrin" as shown.
