Framed Antique Silk Ikat Chapan Robe Central Asia with Provenance

Chapan is the iconic front-open flowing robe traditionally worn by the nomadic people in Central Asia. This Uzbek chapan was made from a finely woven ikat silk fabric. It showcases a brilliant color palette and bedazzling patterns. Tailored to symmetrically display the striking ikat motifs, the garment was hand-sewn and lined and dated to late 19th century with the origin marked on the collection label verso as Afghanistan. The robe seems lightly padded and hand-sewn ribbon details were placed under both arms as well as the bottom sides. The workmanship was refined and detailed.
Presented on a linen background in a shadow box, the textile art was part of the former corporate collection with a metal tag that reads "Xerox Property no 2196" as well as a paper label as shown.
