Embrace the evocative power of mid-century modern art with this striking abstract figurative bronze sculpture by renowned Michigan artist Pamela Stump Walsh (American, 1928-2008). Crafted in the 1960s, this masterpiece features a family of Brutalist figures rendered in solid bronze, adorned with an applied patina that enhances its raw, organic beauty. Each figure, with its unique form and intricate detailing, captures a sense of movement and emotion, making this piece a dynamic addition to any art collection.
Signed “Stump” on both the front and back of the lower right leg, this sculpture measures 14” H x 11” W x 3.5” D, making it an impressive yet manageable size for display. Pamela Stump Walsh, a pivotal figure in the Michigan art scene, founded the sculpture studio at Kingswood School Cranbrook in 1969, following her apprenticeship under the legendary Marshall Fredericks. Her academic journey includes studies at the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art, University of Michigan, and Oakland University, further cementing her influence and legacy in the art world. Her bronze works can be found in many public and private collections throughout Michigan.
This piece is not just a testament to Walsh's skill and vision but also a significant artifact of mid-century modern art. Its presence in your home or office will not only spark conversation but also inspire appreciation for the intricate blend of form, texture, and narrative inherent in Walsh's work. Owning this sculpture means possessing a piece of art history, with its provenance deeply rooted in the artistic heritage of Michigan, and its aesthetic appeal transcending time. -
