Description
New England, early 19th c.
Carved pine, traces of polychrome painted surface.
Minor repairs and wear commensurate with age and outdoor weathering.
Some traces of original paint and sizing.
This rare early example of a pilot house eagle is carved from laminated pieces of pine and was originally polychrome painted. The eagle with swept-back wings is perched on half of a sphere mounted on a platform with rope-carved edge. -
