Description
This is an original 1930’s Art Deco hand knotted modernist rug. Known to collectors as “silkies”, these hand made Chinese carpets from the 1930’s are some of the most beautiful quality carpets one can find from the Art Deco period. This is a thick, plush wool carpet that is still soft and pliable. The condition is fantastic. The design evokes the modernism of the Bauhaus. In the 1920s and 1930s is was common practice for European designers to venture to China to have their carpet designs realized by the W. A. B. Nichols Company of Tientsin, China.
