Description
Elegant Art Deco / Hollywood Regency style compote made by Farber Bros., New York, ca. 1940s. Amber colored glass bowl, atop a gracefully curved pedestal, sits inside a chrome overly. A classic Farber Bros. style that is perfect for candy, nuts or potpourri. Marked on the bottom, "Farber Bros. - N.Y.C. -
There is no marking on the glass bowl, but the majority of glass for Farber Bros. was made by Cambridge Glass Company. Other makers included Corning, Duncan and Miller, Fenton, Fostoria, Indiana and Westmoreland.
The Farber Bros. (Louis and Harry) "clip on, clip-off" holder design was patented in 1932, designed by John Joseph Willmott for Louis Farber.
This compote is in absolutely gorgeous condition. True to the Farber Bros. "non-tarnish" claim, some 60 years later this piece still shows no tarnishing or scratches. The glass is in perfect chip and crack free condition.
Measurements:
7 3/4" high x 5 1/2" diameter
