Edwardian sterling silver porringer. Made by McChesney in Newark, ca 1910. Round with straight sides, flat rim, and curved bottom; Tapering handle; center open and inset with curvilinear ornament. Sides exterior have engraved and acid-etched Mother Goose scenes including Old King Cole, Simple Simon, and Little Tom Tucker, cherished characters in olden days pre-industrial fashion, with the men wearing breeches, their woolen-stockinged calves dangling out of the rectangular frames. A goose balances a round frame (vacant) on its beak between mob-capped dames. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. W8T10. Excellent condition with strong definition and deep patina.
