    Early Meiji period (1868 - 1912) ceramic bowl in the shape of an abalone shell, with wonderful realistic details and whimsical execution. Gloss glaze on the inside and matte glaze on the outside. Outside of the shell is heavily textured (suggesting barnacles) and inside is a wonderful swirl shape to mark the shell hinge and ridges towards the outside all in dark blue and white glaze. Artist seal on the bottom and signature on the box read: Masafumi. Comes in original kiri wood storage box.
