Wilkinson & Co., sterling silver egg coddler stand holder in Victorian style from 1880 with 4 sterling silver egg holders. It is accompanied by 4 gilt sterling silver spoons and an egg server that exhibits a refined chicken motif. The pierced egg holders measure 2 1/3'' in height by 1 7/8'' in diameter. The basket stands on 4 balled feet, measures 6 1/2'' in height by 6 3/4'' in width by 7 3/4'' in depth. Total silver weight is 17.2 troy ounces. The basket, egg holders, and spoons bear hallmarks as shown.
Wilkinson & Co. was a maker established in Sheffield since at least 1831. Various pieces of its production were successfully exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851. Since the 1850s Henry Wilkinson & Co was active in London. In 1892 the business was bought by Walker & Hall. Walker & Hall was an important English silversmith established in Sheffield in 1845 by George Walker. -
