An Art Nouveau silver Wine Carafe with tray and six chalice cups by the famed German WMF company . This unique set has it all ! There are the undulating curves of the Art Nouveau design, but also the more geometric “Jugendstil” embellishments that were the gateway to the Art Deco Movement. The tray isnt simply a flat sheet of silver, rather it has special indentations so that the carafe and the cups can nestle in place.

Artists who worked in the school of “Jugendstil” (literally the “young style”) were dedicated to finding ways of balancing ornamentalism and functionalism and ways of reconciling art with industry .
