An Australian Aboriginal Primordial Ancestor Couple Statue From Tiwi Island

Description
A pair of large carved statues that depict an ancestor couple from Tiwi Island, off the northern coast of Northern Territory. They were carved out of ironwood, a very dense wood native to the island. The body surface is covered with clan specific geometrical designs using ocher paint. The hair is made from natural coconut fiber.
The male and female figure were carved by different artists as shown on the certificate from Tiwi Art and Design Community center. Purchased directly from the center in 2006.
The height is 65 and 54 inches respectively. -
