Antonio Pineda is acknowledged as one of the Masters of silver jewelry during the Renaissance that occurred in Taxco, Mexico after the Mexican Revolution. When he was a teenager, he was apprenticed briefly with William Spratling at Taller de las Delicias where he learned to appreciate great design as well as developing his techniques of working silver. He later apprenticed with Valentin Vidaueretta, a painter and silversmith in Mexico City, returning to Taller de las Delicias as a salesman and manager. He opened his own taller in 1939 and by the early 1950s, was recognized internationally as a leading modernist artist. He work was prized internationally for its quality and design.

The crescent necklace and earrings design has long been a favorite of collectors. It is eminently wearable, distributing its weight across the spread of the necklace. It can be difficult to find as it goes into private collections readily. We are willing to break up the set if you would like either the necklace or the earrings but it is also wonderful to have the opportunity to own them as a set.

We have checked the category of "Native American" because there isn't a category for jewelry from Taxco, Mexico. The Renaissance that occurred there created an international market for this jewelry. The designs either gave tribute to the artistic heritage of Mexico or they were an inherent stimulus to the international Modernist movement. Antonio PIneda, in particular, was an early Master in Taxco and his jewelry was fundamental to Modernism.
