Description
LuAnn Tafoya is the daughter of Margaret Tafoya and the granddaughter of Serafina Tafoya, both of whom taught her pottery making. She excels and is recognized for her ability to make near-perfect large vessels, which is very difficult. Her work has long been recognized as that of a master potter and it is found in numerous major museums around the country, including the Heard Museum and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC.
This exquisite incised jar is a clear representative of LuAnn’s artistry. The pot is formed, slipped, incised and polished to near perfection. The shape is graceful with the tapering down to the base. Four side views are given of the pot…they look like the same view but in fact, the jar was rotated with four different sides photographed. That is a clear statement of the symmetry and perfection of LuAnn Tafoya’s work. -
