Description
This beautiful mixed media work was created by the esteemed American artist Alexander Markovich circa 1985. Using collage elements, charcoal, ink and oil paint, Markovich creates an abstract composition resounding with spiritual force and contemplative quietude. Against a largely grisaille background- with sparse flashes of chromatic brilliance in hues of lavender, teal, and carnelian, Markovich creates an abstract composition suggesting a gate rendered in chalky white paint. The piece calls to mind the silence and meditative quality of Casper David Friedrich, especially that of "The Abbey in the Oak Wood." The indeterminate forms in spectral white against a richly organic and dusky background encourage the mind to free associate, imagining forms within. Its refined palate and austere composition make this piece as versatile as it is aesthetically compelling, blending perfectly with any style of interior from classic Mid Century Modern to contemporary. The piece is documented on page 26 of "Alexander Markovich: A Journey Towards the Divine" and comes presented in a custom gallery frame. Excellent condition.
