18th-century Italian Rococo painting, Cherubs Game
-
Description
A magnificent 18th-century Italian painting. This oil on canvas painting depicts a splendid idyllic landscape with nude cherubs at play. One of them proudly displays a nest full of birds and, with a theatrical gesture, pushes another child away. The composition is expertly balanced; the soft light and chiaroscuro technique enhance the rosy complexions. Each element reveals the expert hand of a Rococo artist and recalls the models of the great painter Vittorio Amedeo Rapous (1729-1819). Active primarily in Piedmont at the Savoy court, he was influenced by French painting and is best known for his decorative and allegorical works, including children's scenes and still lifes. (The painting does not currently come with an expertise, but one can be requested upon payment of the relevant additional costs.) A beautifully decorated 20th-century gilded wood frame shows some signs of aging. The painting has already been restored with relining, replacement of the stretcher, and recoloring in small areas; overall, it is in good condition. Ideal for enhancing a classic living room, an elegant bedroom, or a modern study, this artwork can also shine in contemporary settings, creating a refined play of contrasts. The painting is part of a pair (see photo and request the price of the pair if still available). This pair of paintings, still together, is a rare opportunity on the antiques market. Interior size: H 67 x W 99 cm.
