Antique Italian painting from the mid-17th century. Oil on canvas painting, first canvas with partial relining, depicting a subject of sacred art, The Incredulity of Saint Thomas, of good pictorial quality. Painting that develops vertically, of exceptional size, with characters portrayed almost life-size. Painting adorned with a simple modern bronze-colored wooden frame. Painting depicting the episode from the Gospel of Saint John, the apparition of Christ to Saint Thomas. The Saint, incredulous of the resurrection, at the invitation of Jesus touches the wound in the side of the son of God and is exhorted by him to be a believer and not an unbeliever. Painting of strong impact, for antique dealers and collectors of ancient sacred art, ideal for an important hall or study. Painting that has undergone conservative restoration, partial relining at the edges of the canvas and on the central joint, replacement of the frame and resumption of color in some places (see photo). In beautiful patina, artwork overall in good state of conservation. Interior size H 187 x W 132 cm.
