ALCHEMY: THE ART OF PHILIP AND KELVIN LAVERNE written by Evan Lobel with Kelvin LaVerne, published by Pointed Leaf Press in 2024, this artwork is shown with an original drawing on pages 266-267 with an original drawing in the section The Paintings. The caption reads, “GOOD AND EVIL, a one-of-a-kind monumental pierced bronze painting in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with enamel cloisonne and hand-brazed sculptured frame with green patina dates from the 1970’s. This important work showcases the dimensionality of the pierced bronze paintings as the back panel is painted green and other colors, which add to the depth and texture from the front. The work was the largest pierced bronze painting created by the LaVernes. The highly sculptured frame adds to the sense of movement. It can be seen hanging in a 1970s photograph of the Seymour Gallery, shown on pages 2-3, which featured the best artworks by the sculptors.” -
