Description
A limited edition serigraph titled Sisters by Izchak Tarkay (Israel 1935 -2012) , a celebrated artist known for his vibrant, impressionistic style. The piece is rich in color and texture, capturing an intimate moment among two women, each elegantly poised and engaged in conversation. Tarkay's use of bold, overlapping blocks of color—especially blues, reds, and oranges—creates a dynamic, almost dreamlike atmosphere that contrasts with the figures' calm demeanor. Each woman appears adorned in flowing attire, adding a timeless sophistication to the composition. The serigraph is signed and numbered 234/750 . The serigraph is elegantly presented within a black, gold-trimmed frame that adds depth, drawing the viewer's gaze into the central scene. This artwork embodies Tarkay's distinctive style and is a testament to his skill in capturing the elegance and serenity of feminine companionship.

About the artist:
Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was a prominent Israeli artist known for his vibrant, impressionistic works that capture the elegance and introspective nature of women in serene settings. Born in Subotica, Yugoslavia (now Serbia), Tarkay's early life was marked by hardship. During World War II, his family was interned in the Mathausen Concentration Camp, where they remained until the war's end. In 1949, his family immigrated to Israel, where Tarkay grew up in a kibbutz. He later studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and the Avni Institute of Art in Tel Aviv, honing his skills and developing his unique style.
Tarkay’s art is influenced by the Post-Impressionists and Modernists, especially Matisse and Toulouse-Lautrec, though his work possesses its own distinct style. His subjects often portray graceful, contemplative women in vibrant settings, characterized by rich colors and bold outlines that blend realism with a touch of fantasy. Tarkay was a master of serigraphy, a technique in which multiple layers of color are meticulously applied to create depth and dimension, lending his pieces a layered, almost dreamlike quality.
Beyond painting, Tarkay’s talents extended to watercolor, acrylics, and drawing, and he also experimented with various forms of printmaking. His work has been exhibited widely in galleries around the world and remains highly sought after in art circles. Tarkay passed away in 2012, but his legacy endures through his evocative portrayals of feminine beauty and inner life. -
