    Philip Paval was a sculptor and silversmith who worked primarily in Los Angeles. He was known as a Hollywood Artist, as he affiliated with many of the Hollywood entertainment industry elite during the mid-late 20th century. Many of his works in silver were acquired for the permanent collection of the Guggenheim Museum. Hollywood, is one of a series of original brass sculptures from the mid 1930s. Cut and fashioned from solid brass sheets, the artist captured the essence of both the head of Oscar, and a depiction of the Hollywood musical including a dancing actress and music staff with notes and g clef. This is an original work that has never been cast, 24 inches high, signed, and dated 1936. Note, this sculpture has the original placard on the front, realizing third museum award at the 17th annual exhibition of painters and sculptors in Los Angeles dated 1936. .A copy of the book,Philip Paval, Autobiography of a Hollywood artist, accompanies the sale of this sculpture.
