Arabian nights The Thousand and One Nights Gustaf Tenggren attrib. Scheherazade
-
Description
This is a masterfully rendered and brilliantly designed scene from the Arabian Nights. page 33 from Random House. We are not sure if this is by Gustaf Tenggren. ( Gustaf Tenggren Attributed ) However, there are supporting references from other Tenggren books he illustrated that match could match this post-art deco style. Most importantly, this work represents a high level and artistic skill that only a few illustrators/artists possess. Based on the complexity of his other compositions this could very well be by the hand of the Swedish-American artist who is famous for his fairy-tale style - or it could be another artist? Random House went to post-production with these illustrations. We have the lithographer's notes and 4 colors markups, registration marks and proofs based on this original black and white illustration we present here. We can not find the final published version on the internet. What does that mean? Perhaps it was not published. Perhaps it was and has not been indexed on the internet or was published under another language. That being said, the illustrations for Arabian Nights presented here are of the highest artistic quality. There are very few if any artist living today who possess the skills to do this.
