Description
Pair of two panel screens with a rooster and a hen in amongst bamboo. Signed by the artist Ema Saiko 1787-1861. A Japanese painter, poet and calligrapher celebrated for her Chinese-style art in the late Edo period. She specialized as a bunjin, a painter of Chinese style using monochrome ink. She perfected the bamboo plant which inspired her pen name.
