17thc. Baroque Money Chest, Iron Strapping & Leather on Stand
-
Description
Purchased in Denmark with uncertain origin. Likely late 17th century European or Scandinavian small trunk typically used as a money chest. Constructed first in wood, then wrapped in leather and finally fitted with black painted iron traps over the entire case. No key, later base. Condition: much wear, rust to iron, overpainting, some replaced iron strapping and losses to some leather portions. Still an amazing historical piece. Box is 11 1/2" height without base.
