French 19th Century Mahogany Louis XVI Lady’s Desk

A remarkable roll top lady’s desk, done in mahogany, from 19th century France. The desk has a rectangular galleried marble top, under which are three short drawers that will only open if the cylindre top is open. This roll top opens to reveal an interior work space complete with three more drawers, pigeon holes, and a sliding writing surface that is covered in green felt. There is a long drawer that can be found beneath the roll top. There is abundant brass ornamentation found on this handsome antique desk. All fluted carvings are filled with brass ormolu, and the drawer fronts are trimmed in brass. Brass was also the metal used for the desk’s drawer pulls, escutcheons, and sabots. c.1870. - More Information
