This stunning and quintessentially Mid-Century Modern Bar Cabinet was designed by the illustrious American designer James Mont circa 1950. Mont was renowned for assimilating elements of classical, orientalist, and Art Deco design into a modern sensibility, using the most luxuriant materials available- a style he termed "Chinese Modern." This piece is a stunning testament to his practice. It offers a rectilinear body with sides and tops finished in a cheerful and sophisticated kelly green lacquer with a pickled oak front. Additionally, it offers a sculptural gilded asian inspired pull on the front of the doors, which open to reveal a drawer within. Mont's pieces filled the interiors of the "who's who" in Mid Century America- from East Coast mafiosos to Hollywood's elite. This iconic and dramatic piece exemplifies the qualities that collectors treasure in Mont's practice. This rare item, by one of the most iconic figures in Mid Century Modern furniture, represents an incredible find for any true collector of the period. It is also a great statement piece for any interior space where sophisticated decadence is paramount. The piece is signed "James Mont Design" and is in Mint restored condition.
