Description
A Rare and Important Renaissance "Judaica" Carved Oak Wood Cabinet, circa 1680
We are pleased to present a rare and important Renaissance Judaica carved oak wood cabinet. This exquisite piece of furniture represents a remarkable blend of Renaissance artistry and biblical tradition.
The cabinet is made of oak wood, which was a popular choice of material for furniture during the Renaissance period due to its durability and ability to hold intricate carvings. The cabinet stands on four sturdy legs and features two doors and a key that open to reveal a spacious storage area. It is also inlaid throughout with mother of pearl, making this a more decorative and beautiful cabinet.
The most striking aspect of this cabinet is undoubtedly its intricate carvings, of various biblical stories that are carved are executed in high relief, with great attention to detail and an impressive level of artistry. The cabinet features two front panels depicting scenes from the book of Esther. On one panel you have carved in detail Mordechai riding the kings horse though town. On the second panel you have Esther coming to meet with the king.
Additional scenes from bibles history are depicted on the sides, including Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac, the Exodus from Egypt, and the crossing of the Red Sea. The panels are framed by ornate borders, with floral and foliate motifs that are typical of Renaissance decoration.
Given its rarity and historical significance, this cabinet would be an exceptional addition to any museum or private collection.
