A rare Rationalist table lamp in painted metal and chrome, manufactured in Italy and designed by Ignazio Gardella.
Sleek and understated in its aesthetics, this lamp embodies, with the characteristic rigor of this style, all the ideals of Rationalism that defined the trends in industrial design in the early decades of the twentieth century.
Bicolored, with a base and diffuser in satin-painted metal, where the black color seamlessly complements the evocative power of polished chrome, the lamp owes its elegance to Ignazio Gardella's ingenious design. The Italian engineer, whose biography spans nearly the entire twentieth century, made significant contributions, both in agreement and controversy, to bringing the Modern Movement to Italy, and this table lamp represents a chapter in his tireless aesthetic exploration.
Produced in Italy in the 1940s, the lamp is particularly interesting as it predates Gardella's collaboration with the renowned furniture and lighting company Azucena.
In good original condition and fully functional, it has an adjustable height ranging from 40 to 47 cm. A similar model is featured in Domus magazine, issue no. 192, dated December 1943, on page 517.
