Pair of Maria Pergay brass table lamps 1970’s

  • Description
There’s a dreamlike quality to this pair of lamps by Maria Pergay. Their brass structure has the fluid, dramatic curves of thrown pottery, matched with the bright shine of the metal. Offsetting the feminine shape of the base, a solid square lampshade feels like a modern addition. Pergay is perhaps the designer most known for working with metals, particularly in an imaginative way, shaping the material into refined, beautiful pieces throughout the mid–late 20th century. These table lamps are an example of her talent and skill, highly decorative pieces. They appear to be inspired by Asian design, though with a decidedly French twist. This light is completely made of brass, the same version as the lights she designed for in the villas of Prince Abdullah in Taif, Saudi Arabia as described in the book: Maria Pergay – Complete Works 1957-2010 – page 93, a book written by Suzanne Demisch. Find in good vintage condition, one minor scratch on one corner of a lamp.
