A most charming antique pier mirror, the oversized and beautifully hand-carved Phoenix cartouche is notable. Raised over a rocaille structure of opposing C-scrolls, the Phoenix holds a sprig of foliage in its beak, the vine proceeding to drape down to the mirror frame and meld into the pierced display. Incredibly rich and ornate, the carving is crisp and shows a practiced hand. The reverse of the mirror is finished in a yellow wash. Likely English, it is a product of the mid-to-late 19th century and is a powerful strike point piece for the classical interior.
