Description
Italian Baroque style painted giltwood wall mirror
Italian, c. 1880
Height 158cm, width 124cm, depth 16cm
This giltwood mirror is crafted in the elegant Baroque style. The mirror features a highly elaborate pierced openwork frame: the rectangular mirror is centrally set, surrounded by scrolling, flowing acanthus leaves on either side. These leaves are wrapped with painted fruit-laden vines. The mirror is surmounted by a tall crown centred with a rosette and topped by a winged cherub crest. The mirror, deftly carved, beautifully gilt, and finely painted, is a wonderful example of the Baroque style. -
