Philip & Kelvin LaVerne Very Rare & Important Pair of Mirrors 1960s (Signed)
-
Description
Exceptional and probably the only pair of “Chine Fret” mirrors in patinated and engraved bronze and pewter with Chinese figural vignettes on all 4 sides with hand-painted enamels in green, blue, orange, and red with gold and copper leaf and hand-brazed fretwork on the top of each by Philip & Kelvin LaVerne, American 1960's (both signed in two places: “Philip Kelvin LaVerne” and “LaVerne P. Kelvin” on front / “P.K. LaVerne” and “LaVerne P. Kelvin” on front). The corners of the mirrors are engraved with the Kuan motif of interlocking circles. Only a few of these mirrors were made by the LaVernes, so a pair is extremely rare.
