Description
The frames presumably in birch which have been ebonized partially gilt with upholstered tops. The original design for these stools was developed in 1812 for Tatton Park, Cheshire for Lord Egerton during the refurbishment of the 251,000 acres estate between 1780 and 1813. Much admired, Gillows received multiple commission for this type of stool and we can confidently place this pair in the Gillows oeuvre around 1820.
England c. 1820 -
