A Pair of Shagreen Chairs in the Manner of Andre Groult, France, c. 1940s

Price Upon Request
  • Description
Pair of Shagreen Chairs in the Manner of Andre Groult, France, ca. 1940’s. A pair of elegant green shagreen chairs, bearing a sunburst pattern on the back and upholstered in silver-green silk. Their gorgeous form and expert execution could have only come from the hand of a very fine craftsman. These chairs were made approximately in late 1930′s- late 1940s.

Groult was the undisputed master of French Art Deco furniture best known for the décor of the Lady’s bedroom in the Pavilion for the French Embassy at the Paris Exposition Internationale in 1925. For this bedroom he created furniture in white shagreen, inspiring an American client living in Paris at that time to commission a suite of furniture from Groult in green shagreen. These chairs closely resemble the set that Groult created for the French Embassy.
