CAB 412 Chairs by Mario Bellini for Cassina, Italy, 1970s
-
Description
These CAB 412 chairs by Mario Bellini for Cassina, designed in 1977, are celebrated as the world’s first free-standing cowhide chair. An innovative piece where form follows the relationship between skeleton and skin. Upholstered in warm cognac leather, each chair is crafted through a meticulous multi-step process requiring artisanal precision. The saddle leather fits like a bespoke suit over a tubular steel frame, secured with zippers—an architectural feat of tailoring and craftsmanship. Over time, the leather will continue to age gracefully, gaining character and becoming more individual with every passing year.
