Cassina produced some of the most iconic objects designed in the 20th century, as well as landmark works of contemporary design from the 1950s to the present, in a continuous dialogue between past, present, and future, to offer furniture elements that are both functional and original. Cassina was founded in 1927 by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina and in the 1950s, thanks to its collaboration with Gio Ponti, it contributed to the design rebirth in postwar Italy. The production of design furniture during the 1960s was successful thanks to collaborations with important designers, architects, and internationally renowned artists such as Le Corbusier, Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Rietveld, Charlotte Perriand, Franco Albini, and Marco Zanuso, as well as Mario Bellini, Piero Lissoni, Vico Magistretti, Gaetano Pesce, and Philippe Starck. Patricia Urquiola has been the art director of Cassina since 2015.
Here we have a Cassina production: a rocking chair model 572 from 1955 with a wooden structure and seat with Pirelli rubber weave, plus removable cushions with fabric covers.
