Cleopatra Daybed by Dick Cordemeijer for Auping
-
Description
Dick Cordemeijer (*1924) created the Cleopatra sofa bed for Auping in 1953, after the company asked him to design ‘something beautiful.’ As bedroom interiors evolved in the 1950s, the refined, streamlined look of the Cleopatra fit seamlessly into modern homes. It marked a shift toward true industrial design at Auping, becoming the company’s first bed produced in large-scale series. Its base is made of wire mesh, its metal frame is painted, with end bars from solid teak. Made from 1954 to 1982, the Cleopatra daybed quickly earned its status as a classic thanks to its clean, minimalist form. This piece is in good vintage condition and shows normal signs of use for its age.
