Description
Connecticut, circa 1800.
Cherry and poplar with an untouched original finish, 33 x 20 x 16 ½ inches
The seats upholstered in custom made needlework based on original fabric on a Gardiner family Federal side chair at Winterthur. These chairs exhibit two distinctive construction features associated with the Chapin School of cabinetmaking: through-tenon seat rail and two-part rounded corner blocks which likely indicate that they were produced by a craftsman trained in one of the Chapin workshops. -
