Description
Florence Knoll’s designs are known for their clean lines and timeless appeal. This pair of mid-century armchairs embodies her philosophy of functional elegance. With their balanced proportions and minimalist aesthetic, these pieces bring sophistication to any interior.
Design
A striking set from the 1950s, these chairs retain their original deep blue wool upholstery. The structured design, featuring a tufted backrest and generous seat, offers both comfort and style. Supported by a sleek chrome frame, the contrast between the plush fabric and the polished metal enhances their modernist charm. The slightly angled back and armrests create a relaxed yet refined seating experience, while the geometric frame keeps the design crisp and architectural. The solid frame is different from the chairs with a parallel bar frame that were made around the same period which makes this set even rarer.
These armchairs are a great example of mid-century craftsmanship. The combination of high-quality materials and a strong, defined silhouette makes them a versatile addition to both contemporary and vintage-inspired spaces. Whether placed in a living area or an office setting, they stand out without overwhelming their surroundings.
Condition
The chairs have been carefully restored while preserving their authenticity. The original fabric remains in good condition, with only minimal signs of wear. The foam has been renewed for comfort, and the chrome frame has some light patina, consistent with age. -
