An elegant, timeless Italian Midcentury Modern Neoclassical Armchair / Desk, Vanity or Lounge Chair by Gio Ponti for Casa e Giardino, Italy. The cherry wood piece features sober, round tapered legs ending in brass sabots counterbalanced with an organic, undulating curving from seat-back. Thus, creating a lyrical composition that defies a pure modernist interpretation. Ponti's chair is visionary. It's concept of bringing dynamic movement into modernism precedes post-modernism by several decades. The chair is entirely original including its original seat covering.
Gio Ponti was the most iconic Italian designer in 20th century. His work embraced design of every day items, one of a kind commissioned pieces, private residences throughout the world and large commercial architectural projects from hotels to office buildings. His work always maintained an elegance and ability to translate the history of Italy into everyday works of art.
