Description
A sculptural silhouette and refined proportions define this elegant pair of Italian lounge chairs. Dating from the mid-20th century.
Design
Crafted in what appears to be stained walnut, the frames are a study in balance where the design gives is a light and open feel. The armrests flow in soft curves, while the side profiles reveal elongated cut-out details.
From the rear, the vertical slats provide architectural clarity, adding to the visual interest from every angle. Underneath the cushions there are rubber bands, which are partially renewed.
This set shows influences of Italian modernism at its best: organically shaped, functional, and stylish without being ornate. The current upholstery of the cushions; in a deep red textured fabric, complements the warmth of the wood and offers a bold contrast that evokes the palette of the 1960s.
While the designer remains unidentified, the chairs echo the work of designers such as Gianfranco Frattini or Ico Parisi; both known for their woodwork and elegantly rational proportions.
Condition
This pair has been partially restored and newly upholstered. The frames remain in excellent condition, with only minor traces of age visible on the wood surface.
