“Potro” Stool
-
Description
The “Potro” stool is a metaphor for the equine anatomy. The influence we receive from Constantin Brancusi becomes evident in this piece.
Sturdy and pure, Potros can also be used as side tables or pedestals.
Potro stools are manually woodturned from solid parota blocks by the Ramírez family in San Juan de Abajo, Nayarit. The wood is locally sourced, extracted by certified producers in the Mexican subtropical forests. Parota wood is appreciated for its dark, dramatic grain and its resistance to insects.
The studio was born in 2013 as Álvareztostado, experimenting with materials and artisanal mexican craft techniques. In 2016 the studio transformed itself into Piedrafuego, honoring the transformation of materials -the meeting of human hands and earthly resources- the subsequent dialogue between materials and those who make our objects. The studio also develops architectural projects, artisanal manufacturing and interior design.
