A gorgeous arm chair with an early and beautifully patinated latte leather covering, it was crafted during the last quarter of the 19th century, probably in France. The crispness of the carvings is nicely preserved in the dense mahogany woods utilized throughout all exposed framing. The open arm profile and oversized back create a most welcoming and striking piece, one that stands alone with presence and richness. The arms are carved with acanthus foliage that flows up the supports and with fronds along the joint of the arm with the chair back; lobed shells highlight each knee over the subtle cabriole leg, each foot with small scrolled toes that terminate over a raised integral block.
This rich and classic chair remain in exceptional overall condition, the early leather and oxidized finish lending a depth of surface that is most wonderful. It is a fine acquisition for the traditional interior, making a particularly attractive strikepoint in a study or master bedroom.
