Chest Of Drawers L12 In Walnut And Wood By Angelo Mangiarotti, Italy 1970's

Sold Sold
  • Description
Chest of drawers L12 in walnut and lacquered wood by Angelo Mangiarotti for Lema. The well-known Italian architect and designer Angelo Mangiarotti designed a series of modular cabinet elements for the Italian manufacturer Lema in the early 1970s. The so-called L12 series is a typical Mangiarotti creation and is characterized by minimalism with the use of sustainable materials that together form a timeless design.A rather formal chest of drawers is what we show here  and it consists of eight drawers of which the top and bottom drawers differ significantly from the rest. Viewed from the front, this creates a subtle trompe-l'oeil effect, making the middle drawers appear deeper. It adds just a little more dynamism than if the drawers had been the same size. The finish of the cabinet is done with a black lacquer with accents added by means of walnut wooden handles on both sides of the drawers. These handles are split at the ends, from which a rounded part emerges. There is foam on the inside edges to prevent unwanted loud or sharp sounds when the drawer closes. A kind of precursor to the soft-closing system. This item is in good condition with, of course, minor signs of wear. There are some scattered scratches and slight color differences in the paint.LiteratureG. Gramigna, Repertorio 1950-80, Mondadori, p.368"
