  • Description
A fine, rare and original mid-18th-century George II carved mahogany tray-top pie crust tripod table with birdcage, circa 1750. England.
The solid mahogany one-piece moulded piecrust tilt-top sits over an architectural mahogany bird cage consisting of four turned columns. The function of the bird cage allows the top to rotate and to be easily removed.

It should be noted that the table is in the most fabulous condition, of very good coloured has rich age patinated surfaces throughout.

Tripod tables of this form gained popularity in England during the reign of King George II and continued into the late 18th century. They have remained fashionable to the present day, however, the golden age for this model is from 1750-1770 when some of the very finest examples were commissioned by cabinet makers such as Thomas Chippendale and Henry Hill.
