Description
#2907
An über chic Italian Aldo Tura tobacco coloured lacquered goatskin / parchment elliptically shaped dining table by renowned Italian Desinger Aldo Tura in the mid 20th Century, a fine example.
Italy, mid 20th century - circa 1960 -70.
Of elliptical form, the wonderfully figured and coloured quarter section goatskin lacquered top over an oval twin section base.
In perfect condition, this wonderful example, having one of the best choices and colour of goatskin we have seen, has been re-finished back to the original condition without any surface marks.
There is a great depth and colour to the parchment to this dining table, whilst having the soft curved form, making it a fine example of Aldo Tura’s work.
Aldo Tura (1909-1963) was a hands-on designer who experimented greatly with traditional craftsmanship hand applied craft processes and finishes out of his workshop in Milan. He is best known for his tables and lamps, which drew on shapes from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements. His designs were minimal allowing interesting materials such as parchment, eggshell and goatskin to be centre stage. Along with artists like Piero Fornasetti and Carlo Bugatti, Aldo Tura (1909-1963) definitely belonged to the mavericks of Italian design. Tura founded his workshop in Milan in 1939 and the company has been in operation ever since, now continuing to operate in Brianza, promoting Italian hand-craftsmanship and the eclectic materials embraced by their namesake designer.
